The Hilly Bangladesh
Three
consecutive holidays were ahead from February 21 to 23. I sat over a map
and chalked out a plan to take a detour of the hill districts. I phoned
Shaer to arrange a vehicle. Shaer requested few friends and Monzoor
responded quickly.
On
February 21 morning Monzoor and his wife Jesmine picked me up from
Kakali, Banani area. We picked up Shaer, Mimi, Meesham and Shaeri. At
Zatrabari, we met a huge traffic jam. All holidaymakers were rushing out
of the capital. We halted in front of the Nurjahan Restaurant at
Comilla to take breakfast of paratha and beef bhuna.
The weather was pleasant. We
took a left turn at Baroihut and right turn at Karerhut. Once we entered
the hilly area our companions were thrilled. The driver was new in this
terrain, which worried me a little. Soon the driver got acclimatized.
We reached Ramgarh at around
1300 hours. We visited the BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) founding site, had a
cozy rest and a cup of tea at Ramgarh BDR

Jamuna Bridge / Bangabandhu Bridge
Jamuna is one of the
three main rivers of Bangladesh. It separated the northern part of the
country from the rest of Bangladesh. Thus there was a communication gaps
which existed with all its disadvantages. To bridge the gap, a decision
was taken for construction of a bridge in 1966. And this dream and
decision has now become a thing of reality .
The actual Physical Work of the bridge began on October 16,1994. It took 889 days to complete the bridge. During this period 18 lakh laboures worked hard day and night to complete the bridge. More than two thousand foreigners including engineers, technicians, supervisitors and labourers worked. They were from U.S.A, U.K. , Holland, Germany , France, Italy, South Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Sree Lanka.

National Memorial
The National Memorial at Savar is a symbol of the nation's respect for the martyrs of the war of Liberation.
It is built with Concrete, but made of blood. It stands 150 feet tall, but every martyr it stands for stands so much taller. It is an achievement the dimensions of which can be measured but it stands for an achievement which is immeasurable. It stands upright for the millions of martyrs who laid their lives so that we may stand upright, in honor and dignity, amongst the nations of the world. Most prominently visible is the 150 feet tower that stands on a base measuring 130 feet wide.
There is actually a series of 7 towers that rise by stages to a height of 150 feet. The foundation was laid on the first anniversary of the Victory day. There is actually a plan to build a huge complex in several phases. The entire complex will cover an area of 126 acres. The plan of this complex includes a mosque, a library and a museum. The relics of the liberation war will be kept museum. They will ever remind our countrymen and all who would come to visit the museum of the valiant struggle and supreme sacrifices of a freedom loving people .
Here also will be clear warning to all oppressors that the weapons of freedom need not be very big. The will of people prevails, for man is born to be free. The most moving sight of the complex is the graves we bow down our heads in respect, as the towards soar symbolizing the loftiness of their sprite.

Parliament House (Miracle Building of Bangladesh)
Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament House of Bangladesh) is one of the twentieth century’s utmost architectural structures. Famous architect Louis Kahn designed this stunning building.
It was made of mostly concrete and marble showing a rich blend of ancient and modern architecture.
Use of different geometrical shape and floating outlook are some unique
attractions of this glorious creation.But sad to say, this superb piece
of architectural work often found unseen and overlooked. It looks Like
the Taj Mahal & amazing seen from afarnoon.
Local people of our country called it “Sangshod Vaban”. It will be better if you can hire a "Rickshaw" and go around it. The best time to visit is Obviously in the day time but you can come at night here also. Every day many visitors come here.

National Zoo
At first I went into the shed in which the monkeys were. Before I could get near them I could hear their chattering. They were jumping from one bar to another. I liked their performances and gave them a whole bunch of plantains. My attention was next drawn to the cage in which there were two big snakes. They seemed to be asleep. The sight of the snakes made my blood creep.
Then I turned my eyes from them at a porcupine. I then saw some deer whose beautiful eyes attracted me. I turned away from them to the place where the tigers were held in a cage. They greeted me and many others with loud growls. They impressed me with their majesty. I felt rather happy when I visited the birds. They were of various colors and shapes. They were large in number. I saw two crocodiles kept in a small pond. I also saw a gorilla. I also visited some other beasts and water animals. I was beside myself with joy. I spent several hours. There were some fast food shops. I took light refreshment. The environment was calm and quiet. The natural scenery of our national Zoo is very beautiful.
